Stop the spread of Molluscum Contagiosum

We thought this week it might be helpful to collate all of the best info on stopping the spread of Molluscum Contagiosum spots our members have shared in our online community.

1. Avoid direct skin contact with others who actively have viral spots. If your child has Molluscum Contagiosum spots and you need to attend events or sports where contact could occur- dress your child in light clothing that covers (i.e. Rash top in the pool).

2. Use an antibacterial wash laundry enhancer for washing used by sufferers, primarily if there is weeping from any of the spots- Viral matter resided in the core!

3. If you have children or friends who are immunocompromised or completely chemo, avoid contact. Once Molluscum Contagiosum spots has a hold here; it can take a very long time before it lets go!

4. Showers are best! But a bath ( in a laundry bucket or outdoor baths during summer) is, according to our members is helpful, and once healing is underway, it can help bring the cores out!

5. Buy towels of a different colour for the sufferer to use.

6. Wash hands frequently ( or use hand sanitiser) and encourage your child not to touch their face.

7. If spots are itchy, encourage your child to not scratch, bump or rub spots.

8. Wear disposable gloves when applying treatments.

9. Avoid popping as the viral matter inside is the most contagious part! the core should come out entirely as one piece once it is ready. ( cores come to the surface eventually and can be removed painlessly with tweezers, or they will simply flatten out and disappear. )

10. If you see new Molluscum Contagiosum spots come up on your child, do not draw attention to them. If your child does not know they are there, they are less likely to touch and spread!
